The first time I saw Luke was in the Lexington Singles Ward during church. He was sitting a few rows behind me. All I remember from that day was that I was trying to listen to the speaker and got distracted by some chatter and laughing. I turned my head around to see who the culprits were, sure enough; it was Luke and Nolan Palmer. Luke flashed me his beautiful smile, with his beautiful teeth, and beautiful blue eyes. Needles to say...my heart melted from day one!
I officially met Luke the next weekend, when Missy (Martineau) Palmer and I decided to make home made pizza and invite some guys over to play games. So we invited Luke, Nolan, Kevin Kennedy, and Angie (Cooke) Kennedy over. I think other people were there too, but I definitely don't remember who they were.
(Fun Fact: Nolan Palmer and Kevin Kennedy were Lukes mission buddies. They all flew home on the same plane together and they ended up marrying two of my best friends, Angie Cooke and Missy Palmer, from the same young woman's, jr. high , and highschool!)
2. What was the first thing you said to your husband?It was probably "Hi," however; I do remember our first conversation. It pretty much consisted of Luke putting his arm around me and making fun of me for mistaking his red GMC truck to be orange! (I swear it was orange under the light)
3. Where was our first date?Luke had been asking Missy and Nolan to set us up. So I got a call from Missy while I was at work. She said he is driving 45 minutes to go on a date with you, you better be available! So obviously flattered, I agreed. We doubled with Nolan and Missy to TGIFridays and went back to her house to watch "The Incredibles." (I asked him out for our second date the next week)
4. Where was your first kiss?
Well the first time he tried to kiss me was on his couch during the movie, "Along Came Polly." The arm went over my shoulders, his hand on my chin, and his nose nuzzling my cheek......I knew it was coming. However, I felt it was too soon at the time so I kept moving my head in the opposite direction. He finally asked if he could and I said yes, but not yet. So a couple of long pursuing weeks went by when I finally couldn’t take it any longer! We were on my couch this time and I just grabbed his face in my hands and laid one, or two, or three on him!!!
5. How long did you date?
March to May-Dated 2.5 Months. May to August- 3 Months, Engaged and Married Aug. 5th. On the 5th week of dating we went on a trip to the Magical Kingdom, Disneyland with our friends Trisha and Brian Davis. One week after that we said "I love you,” for the first time. (He said it first)
6. Where did you get engaged?
Luke took me to a spot where we had previously gone to "Gaze" at the stars in the desert. He said this is where he knew he loved me. So it was a special place to the both of us.
7. When and where were you married?
We were Married on August 5th 2005, on a beautiful, cloudy, drizzly day in Arizona! My dream wedding day! We were Married and Sealed in the Mesa, Arizona Temple (the best one).
8. How did the reception go?The whole day was Amazing! After the sealing, my fantastic Parent in-laws put together our Lunch-in at the Landmark. This was one of my favorite events of the day. It started off with one toast and it pretty much went around the room. I loved everyone’s kind words and it really helped me get to know his family. The actual reception was put on at Val Vista Lakes Clubhouse. It was very beautiful, elegant, and old fashioned, (compliments to my Madre). We had a ton of family and friends there to help celebrate. My cake was made out of Kathy's Rum Cake......yummy! And I had the most gorgeous bride’s maids, Trisha, Brooke, Heather, and Paige. Brooke wrote a song and sang it for us. Luke had the handsome Nick, T.J., Ben, and John as the groomsman. And as soon as the limo came....Luke was dragging me out the door!!!
9. How was the honeymoon?
We stayed at the best resort in Scottsdale! The Hermosa Inn. It was a hidden oasis. Our great friend’s Valerie and Chris McRae surprised us and snuck away from the reception to place rose peddles, candles, chocolate sticks, and sparkling cider around our room!!! This was so awesome, definitely in my top favorite gifts ever. We didn’t have very long before we had to get back for work and football, so we decided to continue our honey moon to Disneyland in December. It’s magical every time you go! I still want to "continue" our honey moon after we get done with school; to some place tropical....we will keep you posted!
Of course there is a ton more to our love story….but we have to keep some things clandestine right?
