Funny/Scary Boy Scout Camping Story!
I don’t know if anyone else, besides Luke's family, knows of his distaste
for camping let alone the Boy Scouts? Luke's Boy Scout experience lasted up until his leaders took him on a 60 mile canoe journey. After that, he had had enough! So you can simply find the Humor in the fact that a couple of weeks ago....Luke got called to be a Boy Scout Leader.
Now, that’s not even the funniest part. The 11 yr old boys needed to find the perfect weekend to go on a scout camp. Since Luke had baseball starting up, last weekend was the perfect opportunity!
It was a nice weekend in 30 degree weather, on the Blue Ridge Parkway, in February.
Anyways, the story gets exciting when a Hiker, with long straggly hair and scruffy beard strolls through their camp sight. His name was Dan. Dan started to chat with Luke and Ryan (the other scout leader, who just happens to be the Presidents Son-in-law). Dan is doing the hike that starts in Canada and ends in Mexico.
Well he went on his way and about a couple of hours went by when Dan came back around again. This time he was all shaken up and he described to Luke and Ryan what he had discovered in the woods. He said that he had come across another camp sight. Being friendly Dan saw that the other camper had left his camp stuff out, so he went to shake the man's tent to let him know. Dan said he also noticed a rancid smell and decided to peek into the tent. Well he ended up finding a Dead Man!
We don’t know who he was but, we do know he had a gun on him. This was the kind of sad scary part.
Anyway, Luke and his scout campers had the police going in and out of their camp site the whole night taking statements from everyone. Then, to top the whole night off Dan asked if he could sleep in their camp site.
So Ryan invited him to share a tent with him and Luke!!!!!! Freaky I know. All I get is a text from Luke stating they found a dead guy and he is sleeping next to Dan, the hiker that found him!
Needless to say, I was glad he was alive the next morning. lol
Wow... that would freak me out!! I know that Mark would tell the dude to find a spare tree limb, though if he saw a gun I am sure that he would oblige too. :)
ReplyDeleteFunny that MY Eagle Scout HATES to camp and he didn't enjoy ONE second of scouts either. (which is ok with me when it comes to hiking... I would rather watch paint dry!):) My boys have to be in scouts though, no question... it's practically a right of passage. Plus I am bound to be a den mother and HECK if I am the ONLY scout! haha...
Still think that is so funny! Brent says he is going to hold this against Luke for forever! And Ryan Lenehan said he didn't even think anything of asking that guy if he wanted to sleep in the tent until you sent him that text Niki. Guys so need us girls to be rational for them! We had fun this weekend. Hopefully we can do it again soon.

ReplyDeleteOkay, that's seriously scary! Holy cow! Ya know how ironic it was that Luke got called into Boy Scouts, well, I have been called into YW's! Yeah you can just imagine....:)
